In this review, I'll take a look at what's new in SEP2 and compare its features to the original version of SEP. Recently, Nik Software released a major revision, Silver Efex Pro 2 (SEP2).

The Google version you purchased is available for download if you search for it.I've been an advocate of Nik Software's original black-and-white conversion plug-in, Silver Efex Pro (SEP), since it was released a few years ago. You didn't give DXO any money for NIK, they paid Google to purchase NIK software, so take it up with Google. Does anyone have any advice for me? I should mention that I am retired and not doing much photogaphy any more, so spending more money to use these two pieces of the Nik collection is not something I'm willing to do. I don't feel I should have to pay more to use Color Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro since I already paid over $400 for them. Their reply was basically 'tough luck - please purchase the new version from us'. I wrote to DXO, the new owner of the Nik collection, explained all of this, and asked if they could help.

When I tried to use Color Efex Pro in Photoshop CS5 on my new laptop, a box popped up asking me to fill in the product key, so I filled in the correct numbers - but then I got a message saying 'An error occurred'. I also installed Color Efex Pro 4 and Silver Efex Pro 2 on my new laptop, as those were the only parts of the Nik software that I ever used. I had still been using Photoshop CS5 64-bit on my old laptop, and I was able to get that installed on my new laptop with a download from Adobe.

I recently purchased a new laptop because my old one was 11 years old. I still have the installation CD with all of the product keys. 24, 2011, before Google purchased the Nik collection, I paid $412.22 to purchase the entire Nik collection.
